The Dental Implant Process Explained

We’ll use a cone beam CT scanner to create a three-dimensional model of your mouth and carefully plan the placement of your implant posts. Surgery is performed to place the implants in the jaw; for the Teeth-in-a-Day procedure, the posts will be angled so that they join with the densest areas of the bone. It takes several months for your mouth to completely heal after the surgery, and during that time, the posts will fuse with the jaw. With Teeth-in-a-Day, you’ll be able to wear temporary dentures during this recovery period.

Which Dental Implants are Right for You?

The dental implant process varies depending on how many teeth you’ve lost, but “Teeth-in-a-Day” is typically reserved for patients who need to replace an entire row of teeth. If you want to receive temporary dentures on the same day as the surgery, you should consider All-on-4 and All-on-6. Of course, before making any sort of decision, you need to schedule an appointment so that our doctors can help you determine what the best option for maintaining your oral health is.

When and Why It Can Take Longer than a Day

There are circumstances where the process will last longer than just one day before you receive your new teeth. Sometimes, the intended surgical site will need to be prepared beforehand; for example, if there’s gum disease present, it needs to be treated first. Also, you may not be able to receive temporary prosthetics right away in especially complex cases. Our doctors will need to examine you thoroughly before determining whether Teeth-in-a-Day is viable in your case.

What to Expect During Teeth-in-a-Day Dental Implant Surgery

Implant placement is performed on an outpatient basis; you’ll be able to go home afterward, although, you’ll typically need someone else to drive you. The protocol for the surgery will vary depending on your needs, but you can usually expect your mouth to be numbed and to receive an appropriate form of sedation to help you stay calm, relaxed, and anxiety-free throughout the procedure. After you’ve received your temporary dentures, we can schedule your next follow-up appointment (which will allow for enough time for your mouth to heal).
